Description

Authored by Robert J. Berens, A Purpose and a Passion is a Civil War novel on cultural tension during and following the South’s wrenching defeat. Four million ex-slaves seek a niche in the Land of Opportunity, “enabled” by bumbling bureaucrats, faltering do-gooders and cynical opportunists. Always the question: Will the well intentioned prevail over the stereotypical? Josh Steele and Libby Calloway intuitively fall in love and the challenge the future.
