Description

The community mausoleum movement of the early 20th century was born in rural Ohio, and quickly spread to neighboring Indiana. These mansions of the dead, as they were called, were both revered and reviled in the Hoosier State. Only 35 of these unusual structures survive across the state that date from the golden era of their
construction, and represent the resting place of over 10,000 souls from all walks of life. Mansions of the Dead explores the coming of the community mausoleum to Indiana, their status today, and the future of these historic and architectural civic icons.

M.T. Publishing Company is excited to offer this exclusive history for the special price of $34.95 for the deluxe standard while production is underway. A digital edition is also
available for only $9.95 in conjunction with a hard cover book purchase.   The book will be 8-1/2″x11″ with 96 full-color pages, a deluxe hardbound cover and a full-color dust jacket. You can choose to have your copy personalized with name stamping on the cover for a nominal $10.00 charge per book.

About the Author

Growing up in his hometown of Auburn, Indiana, John Bry often accompanied his great grandmother to “water the urns” at family plots in cemeteries throughout northeast Indiana. With that tradition came John’s introduction to cemetery monuments and mausoleums, many of which were produced by his family’s monument company business for over 80 years. John’s professional career in Historic Preservation has spanned over 20 years; he developed the first comprehensive model in the nation to address the long-term sustainability and preservation of older cemeteries, and in 2007 took on the management of the Auburn Community Mausoleum.
Since that time, John has traveled the country as a speaker on topics related to community revitalization, historic cemetery conservation, and the story behind the
community mausoleum movement that swept the nation in the early 20th century. John was also the creator of the first historic cemetery trail known as the Tombstone
Trail in northern Indiana, and was appointed to serve as the DeKalb County, Indiana Historian in 2011, and has quickly become an expert on the community
mausoleum movement in the Hoosier State and beyond.
