The multiple authors did massive research into the evolving Indiana conservation movement and forestry industry. Beginning in many cases with native Americans at time of first European contact, the history of the state forests is examined through forest inception, the Great Depression, World War II and the subsequent baby boom, the Cold War, deindustrialization, and up to the present. Authors examined context, people, and locations as the state forests were created and developed, subject to the demands of the public from the beginning through today. The History of Indiana State Forests explores the interaction with and the effect of human activity and state forest land. Its analysis draws upon interdisciplinary material from cultural geography, natural resources, and history.
