Description
Listed are over 1300 men and women who either signed up to serve from Paulding, born in Paulding, lived in Paulding, or moved to Paulding County, Ohio after the war, died and are buried here. All were soldiers in World War I. These men were drafted or volunteered. Also are the women who volunteered for the American Red Cross, who saw the horrors of war. It is my hope though this research, which took over 10 years, thousands of hours and hundreds of miles traveled, that these folks are not forgotten. These folks left vocations, such as teachers, doctors, farmers, dentists, truck drivers, firemen, mechanics, even an embalmer, to answer the call to rid the world of tyranny and oppression, to gibe of themselves to be a voice of democracy and an arsenal of self- determination for others.
The horrible conditions that they witnessed stayed with them as they came home to continue their daily lives. Some of them stayed here, in Paulding County, to live, marry and raise a family. Some died and are buried here, in Paulding County. Some died overseas and are buried in France or Belgium military cemeteries
