ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
For well over three decades, Dale A. Ferranto has represented the devotion and commitment to law enforcement’s highest standards. Indeed, he has raised the bar in many areas of that field of endeavor by his personal example of dedication to excellence, training, and education.
It is said, “you can’t talk the talk until you walk the walk.” Here, in stirring detail, he reveals the anguish of having to witness a fellow officer being killed and having to take a life himself in the line of duty. Dale also describes the stress of working undercover as a potential “hit man”, as an undercover narcotics detective, and as a death investigator in a state mental hospital.
In the following pages, he explains the burdens and strains of commanding inter-agency law enforcement task forces of hundreds of state, federal, and local law enforcement officers. He outlines the tactics of organizing, supervising, and leading statewide campaigns against marijuana planting and distribution. While his accounts reflect the gravity of the situation, often they contain humorous sidebars.
Dale vividly reveals the unpleasant task of being a Special Agent in Charge of Internal Affairs for the California Department of Justice. He makes clear the necessity and importance of law enforcement “policing their own”, as difficult as that task may be.
Dale Ferranto, lawman, has indeed, “Walked the walk.” Read now, as he “talks the talk”
Dale retired as an Assistant Chief with the California Department of Justice as well as a Reserve U.S. Navy Captain in 2008 and 2002 respectively. Not happy being “out of the fold”, he now serves as a Reserve Police Officer with the Laguna Beach, California Police Department.
Dale and his wife, Nancy, live in San Clemente, California.
