Editor Paul Hashagen joined the fire service in 1976. He has been a contributing editor at Firehouse Magazine for twenty-five years. His first book Fire Rescue, the History of Rescue Company 1 FDNY was published in 1989. In 1995 A Distant Fire was published and in 2000 he wrote the official history of the FDNY The Bravest, co-published by M.T. Publishing. He has also had two novels published The Twelfth Hour and The Fire of God. He is currently working on 100 Years of Valor: The Story of Rescue 1 1915-2015.
