Description
DeKalb County, you might say it’s a place where innovation thrives. It is, after all, where barbed wire was invented, and is the source of the famous “Flying Ear” of corn, a delightful image that actually represents the many advances in agriculture made in the fertile soil the county is known for. Yes, DeKalb County is truly a place where innovation is welcomed.
Yet it’s so much more. It is a place where education is valued, whether it be in the higher education institutes of Northern Illinois University or Kishwaukee College, or the many quality elementary and secondary schools in each community. It’s a place where the land is still worked to provide food for those near and far, and where finding new ways to produce the best crops is still encouraged. For many of the 105,000 people who reside in the 632 square miles that make up DeKalb County, the land is simply the place they call home. And it’s a homeland that the DeKalb County Historical- Genealogical Society would like to share with you in a new book that looks at the changes that have cropped up in the past five decades.
