Description
Since 1937, the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad has been answering the call. For decades, ordinary neighbors – doctors, teachers, students, retirees – have staffed rescue trucks and ambulances around the clock, ready to run toward danger. Founded by a teenager who refused to let his neighbors face an emergency alone, the Squad has grown into one of the world’s most enduring and successful volunteer rescue squads. Serving an area filled with political elites and the rich and famous, the Squad has responded to 9/11, the anthrax attacks, plane crashes into the Potomac, political assassinations and bombings, large-scale fires, cave-ins, subway accidents- and the quiet, everyday emergencies that never make the news. This is their story – ordinary people who kept answering the call.
