Horses to Horsepower:A Pictorial History of the Apparatus of the Los Angeles City Fire Department

The long awaited book, entitled Horses to Horsepower, a pictorial history of the apparatus of the Los Angeles Fire Department is now ready for pre-orders with publication and delivery next Fall. Horses to Horsepower is an all color album by the authors of Land, Sea and Air and Companies in Quarters, Dave Cox and Walt Jaeger of the Los Angeles Fire Department Historical Society.
The 208 page book will feature each type of apparatus from the horse-drawn steamers and chemical hose wagons to the latest super powered engines and trucks of today. All of the photos will have descriptive captions. Also covered will be rescue ambulances, helicopters, fire boats, airport crash trucks, Dozer transports, wreckers, brush patrols, tankers, water towers, command and support vehicles. Full page color fire scenes with apparatus in action will be shown throughout the book. A special section of the book will showcase scale models of the LAFD apparatus.
The book will be filled with approximately 400 large color photos of apparatus by manufacturers such as Seagrave, American LaFrance, Pierce, Van Pelt, Mack, Pirsch, Crown. Bell, Ford, GMC, Kenworth, Moreland, Stutz, Emergency One, Dodge, FWD, Thibault, KME. Peterbilt, Walter, Oshkosh and International.
Like the two predecessor books, Horses to Horsepower will be a 9 x 12 inch, coffee table style book. The pre-order price is $39.95 for the Deluxe Standard edition that will have a printed color cover and matching dust jacket.
